The Perfumes That Smell Of Songs
It’s hard not to love the idea behind Parfums Jazmin Saraï which is a collection of 5 perfumes inspired by songs. They were created by Montreal based perfumer, Dana El Masri, who made use of her synthesia to answer the question, ‘What does music smell like"’
The choice of musicians and genres she’s used for inspiration is supposed to be a commentary on the diverse and multicultural world we live in. The scents and the songs are:
Neon Graffiti inspired by Sunshowers by MIA
How You Love inspired by It’s Only Love That Gets You Through by Sade
Led IV inspired by Going To California by Led Zepplin
Otis & Me inspired by Cigarettes And Coffee by Otis Redding
Solar’1 inspired by Africa by D’Angelo The collection has just landed at Bloom Perfume so I took of advantage of their sample service and ordered some 1.6ml vials in Solar’1, How You Love, and Neon Graffiti. As much as I’d like to report back positively on how they smell I really can’t – they’re just not my cup of tea.
Neon Graffiti is the most accessible out of the three but it would be a stretch to say I like it. The other two I find so overly pungent and heady that they’d probably make me feel unwell if I had to smell them for any extended length of time.
Because they don’t agree with me, I don’t think I’m the right person to describe these scents in more detail or say whether they have a strong link with the son...
