Founding a beauty company out of personal necessity is not a new thing. Jessica Alba did it with Honest. So did Miranda Kerr and Kora Organics and Megan Larsen of Sodashi. And you can add Aussie Kellie Collis to the list. Looking for products that would treat her son?s eczema and sensitive skin, Collis ditched her job in the finance sector and created SALT by Hendrix, a vegan, cruelty-free and organic brand that nourishes the skin and nurtures the soul.

Collis had always been interested in natural skincare, but it was only after falling pregnant that she became conscious of what she was actually putting on her skin, and the possible long-term effects. So Collis took a leap of faith, quit her corporate job and launched SALT by Hendrix from her kitchen (don’t you just love a homegrown success story"). The focus was plant-sourced hydration, and the first product was a body oil that could be used on her son to treat his dryness without irritation (the company’s offerings now include skin, scent, bath and body products). Fun fact: the company is named for Collis’ son, Hendrix, and the original salt-based formulas.
