The big emphasis of the Zelens makeup range, Active Colour, is that all the products have a high concentration of ingredients normally reserved for skincare products. While this definitely makes them well worth using, I think the product shades deserves equal amounts of attention. The truth is a great formulation is meaningless if the colours aren’t flattering on the face.
I’ve a stack of blushers but my Zelens one in Apricot is what I reach for the most as it gives the most natural flush of colour and is impossible to apply badly (great for when you’re in a rush). I also have the same amount of love for the Youth Glow Foundation and Active Concealer. They enhance skin beautifully and contain skin-saving ingredients but it’s the shades that draws me to them the most.
I now feel the same way about the new Extreme Velvet Treatment Lip Colour. The list of good things in these lipsticks is as long as your arm and they’ve cracked the code on making a matt lipstick that’s smoothing, hydrating and weightless but when I look at them it’s the shades that gets my heart beating faster.
There’s only 9 colours but each one deserves its place in the range. These aren’t novelty, fun for five minutes lipsticks. These are enduring classics that will get used until they’re gone. The colours fall mainly into the red or nude categories and, as I hardly every wear reds, it’s the nudes that I’m most enamoured with. ...
