What’s The Deal With Snail Slime"
First there was the bird poop facial, we know, gasp! But, hey, if Victoria Beckham approves, I guess we can get around to it…maybe. But now it seems everyone is smearing snail mucus on their face, and before we nayed, we dug up some dirt on the craze. It’s not all gross, we promise.
Snail slime, mucus, mucin—it’s all the same thing…snail guts. We know, where’s the pretty part, right" The snail’s mucus, or enzyme if that sounds better, is made up of about 90% water and nutrients like hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid, and elastin (a protein responsible for allowing skin to bounce back when stretched). The slimy stuff protects snails from cuts and rough surfaces…on the human face, it’s been shown to firm skin and replenish moisture, not to mention help to fade acne scars, reduce hyperpigmentation, and smooth an uneven complexion with its cell regenerating properties. Regular use of snail mucin has also been linked to minimized pores. It’s no wonder people are obsessed with the snail facial. While we’re still not 100% game on letting snails crawl around our face, we are inclined to try some products that harness the power of snail slime — if it means clearer, firmer, brighter skin, why not"
