I really wasn’t sure about the new Miller Harris fragrance, Vetiver Insolent, when I first smelled it at a recent #30plusblogs event. However, when I tried it at home I really liked it. This isn’t the first time when my first impression of a fragrance turns out to be different from my lasting one and I’ve worked out that it has nothing to do with the fragrance and everything to do with the setting I’ve tried it.
The #30plusblogs has held at the Miller Harris store on Bruton Street and it was reasonably loud and busy. It was a great event and lovely to see lots of friendly faces. However, I think my senses were too overloaded with everything else going on around me to properly take in and appreciate a new scent. I’ve experienced the same thing when trying to find a new perfume in department stores – I can try a dozen and wrongly think I don’t like any of them. So the moral of the story is… if you’re someone who’s particularly sensitive to their surroundings it’s a good idea to choose your time and place carefully when getting to know a new fragrance. It’s really worth taking a considered approach as fragrances you love become life long pleasures.
