This New Nail Trend Is All the Rage on Instagram, Thanks to the Teen Crowd

If you thought nail art had fully faded into the background of all things beauty, you’re obviously not keeping up with the teens. A few years back, it was all about stiletto nails?long, perfectly manicured (artificial) talons filed down to a sharp and objectively terrifying point, as seen on Rihanna, Zendaya, Kylie Jenner (who, it must be said, was way ahead of the game), Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey, and so on and so forth until you run out of edgy young stars.
Because teen trends are nothing if not fleeting, the stiletto nail has been put on the back burner lately in favor of impractical super-long styles that are tapered around the edges and end in a flat tip. Called the squareletto, a portmanteau of square and stiletto, the look is trending hard on Instagram, both with people under 18 and nail-art aficionados of all ages.

I did a little bit of research, and it seems the term squareletto has replaced the style’s original name of coffin nails. You can probably imagine why.
It remains to be seen how long #squareletto will live on as a hot trend, but given the shelf life of previous nail-extension fads, it probably won’t be very long. After all, even Kylie has started to embrace a shorter, more natural look. It’s all the better, considering it would certainly be a problem if the current generation ...
