The name for the new Diptyque fragrance, Eau Des Sens, is a deliberate play on words and refers to both senses and essences. This sets the tone very nicely as this is a playful fragrance that has some lovely twists and turns.
It opens with a tangy hit of orange that’s quickly softened by delicate orange blossom petals and it’s the orange blossom that, to my nose, has the biggest role in this fragrance and that you can pick out till the finish.

The heart introduces a sharp and fresh element with the help of Juniper Berries and Angelica adds a touch of green. I think there might be a bit of Petitgrain in the mix too.
Eau Des Sens finishes with some woody patchouli but I can still get definite hints of the orange blossom and even some orange peel. To me, the overall ‘flavour’ of the scent is quite like a cologne but a very modern and seductive one with that lasts the day.
Like most Diptyque fragrances this one is unisex and I think it’s fair to say it sits right in the middle of the feminine and masculine scale. Also, it doesn’t belong within one fragrance family but somewhere between fruity, floral and woody.
The concept behind Eau Des Sens is that it takes in the whole tree from the roots to the fruit and I think knowing that helps the fragrance make sense and means one appreciates it all the more.
